On Monday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a notable addition to their quarterback lineup, marking the third quarterback to join their roster within a span of two weeks.

This move followed a significant update from head coach Mike Tomlin regarding the team’s starting quarterback situation.

Amidst reports of Justin Fields’ trade to the Steelers from the Chicago Bears, there emerged speculation that Tomlin had assured Russell Wilson of securing the QB1 position for the onset of the 2024 season. This topic was recently discussed, where Tomlin, speaking at the annual league meeting on Sunday, mentioned that Fields would indeed have the opportunity to vie for the starting role this season.

During OTAs this spring, Wilson is set to receive a significant portion of first-team reps.

With the prospect of a quarterback competition looming in Pittsburgh this summer during training camp, the Steelers moved to bolster their roster by signing a third quarterback.

According to Ari Meirov of the 33rd Team, the Steelers secured quarterback Kyle Allen and defensive lineman Dean Lowry.

Allen originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent signed by the Carolina Panthers in 2018. Since then, he has had stints with the Washington Football Team, Houston Texans, and Buffalo Bills.

The Texas A&M alum has accumulated 4,734 passing yards, along with 26 touchdowns and 21 interceptions throughout his career.

While it’s unlikely that the 28-year-old will assume the starting role in Week 1, it’s worth noting that Mason Rudolph started the 2023 season as QB3 in Pittsburgh and ended up as QB1 by the time playoffs rolled around.
