Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Justin Layne was arrested and is now facing multiple charges in Ohio following a traffic stop on Friday.

Willoughby Hill Police Chief Matthew A. Naegele told reporters that Layne was pulled over around 1:20 a.m. on Interstate 90 when he was clocked driving 89 mph in a 60-mph zone.

Officers discovered Layne had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for a previous traffic violation that he did not appear for in court. The 23-year-old was also driving on a suspended license.

Upon further inspection inside the vehicle, law enforcement identified marijuana residue and detected its odor inside. They also found a loaded 9 mm handgun in the center console of the car. Two passengers were with Layne at the time, but neither are facing any legal violations.

Layne, a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, is facing multiple charges. After being booked into Lake County Jail around 3 a.m., per WTAE, the former Michigan State star was charged with speeding, driving with a suspended license and a fourth-degree felony for improper handling of a firearm.

He appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers this past season, playing 117 defensive snaps and 261 snaps on special teams. Layne was expected to compete for a starting spot in Pittsburgh’s secondary this summer.
