The Pittsburgh Steelers made a big move ahead of free agency on Friday afternoon. The franchise officially decided to release wide receiver Allen Robinson, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The move saves the Steelers $10 million in cap space. He had some of the worst production of his career this year with Pittsburgh, so his release doesn’t exactly come as a surprise. He hauled in 34 catches for 280 yards in the 2023-2024 campaign.
Robinson has dealt with a number of injuries the past few years and it looks like his time in the National Football League could be winding down sooner or later. It’s still been one heck of a career, once it comes time to hang up his cleats. During his 10-years in the league, he’s hauled in 562 total catches for 7,028 yards, while catching 43 total touchdowns.
He had three seasons of over 1,000 yards receiving, with two of those coming for the Chicago Bears. The other was when he played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015. That year with the Jags, he brought in 80 catches for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. It was unquestionably the best season of his career.
His time with the LA Rams was disappointing, but he only got 52 targets. In the 2022 season, he finished with 33 catches for 339 receiving yards and three touchdowns. There’s no question that the prime of his career was mostly with the Bears and Jaguars.
Allen Robinson was one of the all-time greats for PSU
Allen Robinson was one of the best receivers in Penn State football history. He earned second-team All-American honors from Phil Steele for his work during the 2013 season. In 2013, he hauled in 97 catches for 1,432 yards, while bringing in six touchdowns.
The 1,432 receiving yards are still the single-season record in Nittany Lion history. His performance against Indiana in 2012, hauling in 197 receiving yards, is still one of the top 10 performances in Penn State football history. Once he hung up his cleats in Happy Valley, Robinson had etched his name among the all-time greats. He finished with 2,474 career receiving yards, which currently ranks him fifth in school history.
Coming out of St. Mary’s High School (West Bloomfield, Michigan), Robinson was one of the more underrated stars across the country. In the 2011 cycle, he was rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 1,152 overall player in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
