Playing at Seattle has a unique meaning for NaVarro Bowman

This coming Sunday, San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVarro Bowman will return to the field that nearly ended his football career.

In the NFC Championship game in 2014 against the Seahawks in Seattle, Bowman suffered a devastating knee injury that put his career in jeopardy.

"I’ll never forget the exact spot that it happened," Bowman said to Seattle reporters Wednesday. "I’ve been thinking about that for the past couple weeks. It will be very humbling for me just to approach it again and be able to just play on that field again and have a good game."

Bowman suffered a torn ACL and MCL late in the fourth quarter of the game after an apparent fumble recovery. To add insult to the injury, the play was ruled down by contact despite video evidence to the contrary.

Bowman is still not fully recovered from the injury.

"No, (I’m not) not 100 (percent)," Bowman added. "But I think I have a grasp of what I need to do to get my knee game ready. That’s basically including practice throughout the week and being ready on Sunday. But I don’t think I’m 100 percent yet … but I do feel great. I feel the knee progressing every single week."

The 3-6 49ers will take on the 4-5 Seahawks Sunday afternoon. For Bowman, the game will truly take on an added meaning as his NFL career nearly ended at CenturyLink Field just over a year ago.
