Police apologize for July incident involving Packers' AJ Dillon at Lambeau Field
Green Bay Packers running back AJ Dillon had his name in headlines for an incident that occurred at Lambeau Field involving the European brand of football on July 23 when a police officer grabbed him by his shirt and appeared to shove him as he attempted to perform a "Lambeau Leap" while a friendly between Manchester City and Bayern Munich was delayed due to inclement weather:
Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis apologized to Dillon on Friday following the department's review of the matter.
"I have sustained two allegations of GBPD policy violations by the officer involved and directed appropriate corrective action to be taken," Davis said in a statement shared by Rob Demovsky of ESPN. "We do not provide further detail on personnel matters out of respect for the employee's due process rights.
"I apologize to Mr. Dillon for the way he was treated. We appreciate the strong relationship we have with the Packers organization, and the GBPD remains committed to working with them along with the entire Green Bay community to provide the best and most professional police service possible."
Dillon didn't seem too upset when he addressed the issue via Twitter the following day:
"We appreciate the Green Bay Police Department's follow-up to the interaction that occurred at the soccer match, July 23, at Lambeau Field," the Packers added in a separate statement. "We respect their process in reviewing the situation and its conclusions. We value our partnership with the Department and appreciate all they do in working with the Packers to ensure public safety at Lambeau Field events, including gamedays.
"Additionally, we appreciate AJ Dillon's professionalism in handling the matter."
Across two games this season, Dillon has rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. He's also contributed six receptions for 52 yards.
The 1-1 Packers play at the 2-0 Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday.
