Post-waiver wire fantasy football pickups for Week 3

So your fantasy roster isn’t built (Jerome) Ford Tough. Bulk up your Week 3 fantasy roster with these post-waiver pick-ups.

QB: Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers)

Love has thrown three touchdowns in both games this season, tying him with Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins for most in the league. His overall passing numbers could improve, but his fantasy numbers aren’t bad.

In Yahoo! leagues, Love has scored over 20 fantasy points in every game, something quarterbacks like Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson can’t say. In fact, Love’s 43.34 points so far are second-most in the league behind Cousins.

Love is still available in 34% of leagues and would be a nice pick-up for Joe Burrow owners should the Bengals quarterback miss time with a calf injury.

RB: Tony Jones Jr. (New Orleans Saints)

Jones was the last man standing among Saints running backs after Jamaal Williams left last week’s game against Carolina in the first half with a hamstring injury. He responded with 34 yards on 12 carries and a pair of second-half touchdowns.

Jones scored more fantasy points than better-known running backs like Rhamondre Stevenson. Joe Mixon and Josh Jacobs with 15.4 points against the Panthers. This week the Saints travel to face a Packers team giving up the third-most rushing yards in the NFL.

With veteran Alvin Kamara suspended for one more game and rookie running back Kendre Miller nursing a hamstring injury of his own, Jones could have Lambeau Field all to himself.

WR: Adam Thielen (Carolina Panthers)

Thielen’s Panthers career got off to a shaky start with two catches for 12 yards against the Falcons, but he rebounded with seven catches for 54 yards, one touchdown and a two-point conversion against the Saints in Week 2.

This week he gets a Seahawks team giving up the third-most passing yards in the league. There’s a chance rookie quarterback Bryce Young will miss the game with an ankle injury, but if he plays, Thielen should continue to see targets.

The 10-year veteran is still available in almost 60% of Yahoo! Leagues and could help fantasy managers looking to fill a FLEX position.

TE: Taysom Hill (New Orleans Saints)

Hill had two targets for -1 yard against the Panthers last week, but thanks to the aforementioned injuries at running back, the Saints’ versatile tight end had nine carries for 75 yards. Hill has been a “hit-or-miss” type of player since joining the team in 2017, but only five teams have given up more yards than the Green Bay Packers, the Saints’ Week 3 opponent.

DST: New England Patriots

The DST cupboard is pretty bare, but if there was ever a time to play start the Patriots’ defense, this week is it. New England is still available in 20% of Yahoo! leagues and they’ll face the Jets at MetLife Field on Sunday. Jets quarterback Zach Wilson completed 12 passes and threw three interceptions against the Cowboys on Sunday and could give the ball away even more against a division rival.

K: Jake Moody (San Francisco 49ers)

Moody was last week’s pick and since he’s still available in nearly 50% of leagues, he remains the best option for fantasy managers in Week 3. After two straight weeks with 14 fantasy points, Moody finds himself in a three-way tie for the second-most points by a fantasy kicker.

The rookie has made all 12 of his kicks so far including one from 57 yards last week. He’ll be busy on Sunday against a Giants team giving up the most points in the NFL.
