Pro Bowl DE Danielle Hunter, Vikings rework contract

Two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Danielle Hunter will not be a holdout after all.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (h/t Nick Shook) reported Monday that Hunter and the Minnesota Vikings restructured his contract. While the 26-year-old will now earn $5.6 million as a signing bonus, he is also on an $18 million roster bonus for the 2022 campaign that kicks in five days into the new league year next March.

Per Rapoport, the Vikings could either sign Hunter to an extension or release him to save money before that date.

Hunter made back-to-back Pro Bowl squads after he recorded 14.5 sacks in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons but missed the entire 2020 campaign because of a herniated disc in his neck that required surgery to repair in October. There was talk he could skip mandatory minicamp after he missed all of the voluntary offseason program amid his desire for a reworked agreement.

Also on Monday, Jack Day of Minnesota radio station KFAN FM and Vikings Wire reported the Vikings could re-sign veteran defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson. Richardson played with Minnesota in 2018 but spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns.
