Pro Bowl OT Orlando Brown Jr. wants to finish career with Chiefs

It was learned on Monday that three-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. would be reporting to the Kansas City Chiefs following a brief holdout after the two sides failed to come to terms on a long-term contract extension.

Brown, who was franchise-tagged earlier this year, has signed the franchise tender worth nearly $16.7 million and practiced on Tuesday. Per Adam Teicher of ESPN, the 26-year-old later told reporters he'd love to stay with the Chiefs through and beyond his physical prime.

"I want to be here,'' Brown remarked. "I want to finish my career here in Kansas City. I'm sure questions are out there, but to me, with the contract situation, it just wasn't enough guarantees.

"I love ball. I love blocking for Pat Mahomes. I love putting the Chiefs' logo on my helmet. I really enjoy being here.''

According to Teicher and Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, the Chiefs had offered Brown six years and $139 million, but he instead wanted "a $40 million signing bonus and full guarantees at signing beyond that, along with a real annual average of $25 million." After the July 15 negotiating deadline came and went, Brown had little choice but to play on the one-year deal.

"Man, it’s no hard feelings, period — nothing like that," Brown added during his comments. "I appreciate everyone in this building. They’ve given me the opportunity to play football at the highest level and to be a left tackle. So I’ve got no animosity toward anyone in the building, it’s nothing like that. Like I said before, business is business. And I’m here to win Super Bowls. That’s the only thing I care about, is winning football games."

The Chiefs initially acquired Brown from the Baltimore Ravens in April 2021. In his first campaign with Kansas City, he earned his third straight Pro Bowl nod and logged 16 regular-season starts.
