QB Matthew Stafford 'very excited' about playing for Rams

Weeks after quarterback Matthew Stafford officially joined the Los Angeles Rams via a trade from the Detroit Lions in March, Stafford told SiriusXM NFL Radio he was "reenergized" to join a postseason contender.

The 33-year-old who failed to win a single playoff contest across 12 seasons with Detroit reiterated those feelings during a recent interview with Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times.

"We had some good teams in Detroit, and I’m excited every single year because I love playing this game," he explained. "But those years we made the playoffs [2011, ’14 and ’16], I thought we had good teams. But I’m very excited about playing for this team, the Rams organization. I’m excited about trying to get to know these guys. To win as consistently as the Rams have won in the last four or five years, you’ve got to have good people. You can’t just have good players and good coaches. It’s a really fun thing for me to be a part of, just trying to immerse myself in the team."

Stafford added he wants to follow in the footsteps of Rich Gannon, Carson Palmer, and, most recently, Tom Brady as veteran signal-callers who found success with different clubs in the twilights of their careers.

The Rams notched a playoff victory over the Seattle Seahawks in January and expect to be a better overall unit this fall, so Stafford's best days as it pertains to team achievements may be to come.
