Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock is headed to the New York Giants on a new one-year deal, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. Lock is reportedly signing a one-year deal for $5 million guaranteed to backup Giants QB Daniel Jones.
During the 2023 season, Lock served primarily as cleanup crew for Seahawks starting quarterback Geno Smith. He threw for 543 yards in four game appearances. He also had three touchdowns and three interceptions.
Lock was a high second-round draft pick by the Denver Broncos back in 2019 out of Missouri. He played in a career-high 13 games for the Broncos in his second season, in 2020, going 254-of-443 passing for 2,933 yards with 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
He was not used much in Seattle after being a significant part of a blockbuster trade that sent Russell Wilson to Denver but he has a new opportunity in New York now.
Quarterback free agents on the move
Along with Lock heading to the Giants, several other quarterbacks are switching teams this offseason. Jameis Winston is joining the Browns and Jacoby Brissett is going to the Patriots. Kirk Cousins is signing a mega deal with the Falcons while Sam Darnold is signing a one-year deal with the Vikings and Marcus Mariota is joining the Washington Commanders for the 2024 season. QB Tyrod Taylor is also signing with the Jets.

The NFL 2024 calendar year begins at 4 p.m. ET on March 13. At that time, contracts running through 2023 officially run out, making those players free agents. Prior to the beginning of free agency, teams will have a chance to designate one franchise or transition tag player, starting on Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. ET and ending on March 5. Beginning March 11 through March 13 teams can enter into a legal negotiation with players who will become unrestricted free agents.
In addition to NFL free agency, the new year also marks the beginning of all trades being made official by the league office. April 19 marks the deadline to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets. On April 24, the deadline for teams to match restricted free agent offers sheets hits. Following the restricted free agent deadline follows the 2024 NFL Draft, which runs from April 25-27.
