Radio host suggests 49ers QB join the CFL

Hill's suggestion comes days after former All-Pro running back LeSean McCoy said that Lance "doesn't belong in the NFL."

The 2021 No. 3 overall pick started the Niners' first preseason game on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders and went a solid 10-for-15 with 112 passing yards and one touchdown and no interceptions for a 111.0 passer rating but took four sacks for 18 yards as well. 

Lance has been heavily criticized over the course of his young career and the talk of his apparent knack for holding onto the ball for too long and frequent indecisiveness was only amplified after Sunday's effort.

The American rock band Smash Mouth joined McCoy and company in taking shots at the 23-year-old, albeit in a more subtle way. The group known for "All Star" posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter on Monday that San Francisco had a "very solid" group of quarterbacks, before listing list Brock Purdy first, Sam Darnold second and Brandon Allen third.

Following his shocking run in leading the 49ers to the NFC title game over the winter, Purdy has earned the starting role under center, but it's been reported that Lance and Darnold (the 2018 third overall pick) are battling for the backup role. 

Allen, who will turn 31 in September and has played in 15 career games (nine starts) is currently lined up as the fourth-stringer on the projected depth chart.

It was reported on Thursday that Darnold is likely to start the team's second preseason game, which takes place at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday against the Denver Broncos.
