Once an afterthought, Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Amik Robertson has seen his career take a giant leap forward under new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. On Sunday, Robertson got an interception off of Arizona Cardinals star signal-caller Kyler Murray. The former Louisiana Tech product shared more insight into the play and his thoughts regarding Sunday’s action.
Speaking to the media via video conference, Robertson was asked about the performance of the Raiders’ secondary. “I think we performed [well]. I think it was a solid performance from our defense. Of course, we have to eliminate some mistakes, but overall, we played as a unit, as a whole yesterday.” It’s definitely worth mentioning that both Robertson and Nate Hobbs are holding up well in Graham’s scheme, with Robertson talking about one of Sunday’s key plays.

Prior to this season, Robertson was having trouble staying on the field for the Raiders. The former fourth-round selection only played in 18 games from 2020 through 2021, with two starts under his belt. Last year, while seeing regular action (137 defensive snaps), Robertson was regularly picked on by opposing quarterbacks. He surrendered three touchdowns in coverage with an average QB rating of 135.4 when targeted. However, 2022 is shaping up to be different altogether. According to Pro Football Focus, Robertson has put together a 77.9 coverage grade here in the early going.
It was a long road to Amik’s first interception, but he finally has the accomplishment checked off his list. Even though, if you were to ask the young man, he believed it was a matter of time. “I think it was a very special moment for [me]. Like I said before, the last time I touched a football [or] caught an interception was in college. I was a ball hawk. I always knew I could play this game, so that moment came with a lot of emotions because it had been a while. It was due. I was due for a moment like that. I think, overall, it was a special moment.”
Looking ahead to the next few games, Robertson will continue to be relied upon by the Raiders. In a season that’s gotten off to a tough start, Robertson is one of the few positives at this moment.
