The last two teams the Las Vegas Raiders have faced boasted one of the best offenses in the National Football League. The Raiders faced the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs in consecutive weeks before heading into their bye week.

Facing Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, followed by the Dolphins' offense is a tall task and a learning lesson for any defense. For Defensive Back/Pass Game Coordinator Jason Simmons, mixing up calls on defense is important.

Simmons spoke about his respect for Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham's defensive mind and ability to strategically attack opposing offenses.

"Pat [Graham] is always looking to attack the people; he's always looking to attack the quarterback, the offensive coordinator, and then be able to attack the center because that dictates the protections. There's a lot that goes into it; that's why we entrust him [Patrick Graham] to do it."

"I think the one thing is, whenever you're playing against those really good offenses, you can't just be one way," Simmons said. "You can't be all man; you can't just be all zone."

Simmons gave some insight into how Graham puts together his plan for the defense every week. In today's offense-driven league, Simmons says Graham starts by focusing on specific players.

"The first thing is, any time you're talking about putting a game plan, you first start with the people," Simmons said. "It's their people against your people; so, with that, then you then go scheme."

Simmons and Graham have continued to work together with the rest of their coaching staff to come up with cohesive game plans. The bye week has given the players time to rest mentally and physically.

It also gave the entire coaching staff more time to come up with even more new ideas on how to improve. The defense has carried the team this season. Graham continuing to find ways to get the most out of Las Vegas' defense will be imperative.

The Silver and Black will return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, December 10, at 4:05 p.m. EST/1:05 p.m. PST.
