Raiders hire Sandra Douglass Morgan as first Black female team president in NFL history

The Las Vegas Raiders broke a significant barrier on Thursday.

Morgan is a former Nevada Gaming Control Board chairwoman and expected to be officially introduced later in the day.

"I am thrilled to join you as we embark on one of the most exciting times in the history of our organization," Morgan said, per a letter that was sent to Raiders employees that was obtained by the Review-Journal. "I look forward to meeting each of you in person over the coming weeks."

According to Mick Akers of the Review-Journal, Morgan was the first African American to serve as Control Board chair, when she held the role from 2019 to 2021. She is just the third woman to be president of an NFL team (joining Kim Pegula of the Buffalo Bills and Darcie Glazer Kassewitz of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers).

Morgan is also just the third African American to be president of an NFL team, joining Jason Wright of the Washington Commanders and Sashi Brown of the Baltimore Ravens.
