Raiders hosting Heisman winner on draft visit

The Raiders continue to host quarterbacks on Top 30 visits, including Alabama's Bryce Young.

Per NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the 2021 Heisman winner is visiting the Raiders on Thursday.

They also hosted Kentucky's Will Levis on Monday and plan to meet with Florida's Anthony Richardson on Friday. ESPN's Jordan Reid gave all three QBs a first-round grade.

Young is a divisive QB prospect because he produced mind-boggling numbers at the college level, but his small stature (5-foot-10, 204 pounds) combined with arm-strength concerns perturb some scouts.

"The red-flaggy problem with Young is he doesn't have a big arm and isn't ridiculously accurate with the football at all levels. That scares me," wrote Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports.

However, Young supporters will argue his physical traits were never a problem at Alabama. In two seasons as the Crimson Tide's starter, he threw 79 TDs, completed 65.7 percent of his passes and posted a 165.4 passer rating.

Raiders HC Josh McDaniels is among those who believe the 21-year-old QB can translate to the pro game.

"Height is not a prerequisite for the QB position," McDaniels said at the combine. "It's about their ability to see the rush and read coverage properly. I'm not sure anybody's done it better than Bryce in college football."

According to Oddschecker, Young has the second-best No. 1 overall pick odds behind Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud. Therefore, his fall to the Raiders at No. 7 is unlikely.

However, his visit is significant because Las Vegas is exploring QB options and could target one with their first-round pick.
