The Las Vegas Raiders looked like they had their next major addition to their coaching staff done last week. Reports were pointing to Kliff Kingsbury taking over as their offensive coordinator, but things changed over the weekend.

Kingsbury was close to joining the Raiders but contract talks reportedly broke down on Saturday. Available once again, the Washington Commanders moved quickly to bring him in, adding him as offensive coordinator under new head coach Dan Quinn.

With Kingsbury out of the picture, the Raiders moved quickly, bringing in another candidate for the job. They hired former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to take over the same position with their team.

Getsy was one of at least five candidates that the team interviewed for the position. He will have some expectations joining Las Vegas, as head coach Antonio Pierce said, half-jokingly, that he wants to see his team average 24 points per game next season.

There have been rumors for weeks that the Raiders could look to bring in Bears’ quarterback Justin Fields should they use the No. 1 pick on a quarterback. Does hiring Getsy improve those odds of a reunion in Sin City?

In need of a quarterback, it would certainly make for an easy transition to a new team. Fields and Getsy have worked together the last two seasons, producing one of the most dominant run offenses in the NFL, which Pierce likes. The passing game has left a lot to be desired, but the 2021 first-round pick was making strides in 2023.

Expect those rumors to continue until a definitive decision is made by the Bears about their quarterback position. The Raiders will almost certainly be in the market for a quarterback this offseason as veteran Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t part of the plans and the only other quarterback on the roster is Aidan O’Connell, a 2023 fourth-round rookie.
