Raiders name Rich Bisaccia interim head coach following Jon Gruden resignation

The Las Vegas Raiders have named assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia as their interim head coach following the resignation of Jon Gruden Monday night.

According to reports, Gruden met with Raiders team owner Mark Davis on Monday night and informed him of his decision to resign. The 58-year-old Gruden was in the middle of his 15th season as an NFL head coach, but during the NFL's recent investigation into the Washington Football Team's workplace, private emails that Gruden sent to then-Washington team president Bruce Allen and others from 2011-2018 that included misogynistic, homophobic and racist language were uncovered.

Bisaccia had held the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator positions since Gruden hired him in 2018 and is in his 20th season as an NFL coach. The 61-year-old was originally hired by Gruden in 2002 when he was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to The Athletic.

The Raiders are currently 3-2 after they lost to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Las Vegas will travel to face the Denver Broncos in Week 6.
