The Las Vegas Raiders didn’t run away with their second preseason win as they did in the Hall of Fame game. However, a win is a win and one of the positives that continues to stand out is the wide receiver competition. Also, the field at Allegiant Stadium was apparently an issue. Let’s take a look in this recent edition of Raiders Notes.
As far as what happened with the field at Allegiant, fans and media were quick to point to the conditions before the game and even throughout it. All week, Las Vegas was in the news for its monsoon season, flooding combined with scorching heat. In addition, much like the field at the football stadium in Arizona, it’s a grass field that gets rolled in for gameday. Clearly, mother nature had other plans for this week.
Now onto the wide receiver room. By now, everyone knows about the Raiders’ deadly duo at the position with Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow. Nevertheless, the rest of the lineup is still being decided by the coaching staff. With the preseason fully underway, two of those receivers are doing their best to put everyone (coaches and fans) on notice. We’re referring to Tyron Johnson and DJ Turner.
Raiders Notes: The wide receiver room continues to be competitive
Following the win against the Minnesota Vikings, both Turner and Johnson were asked to give an update on the position group. Turner admits he’s doing what he can and not focusing on what’s out of his control.
“I’m just doing what I can, controlling what I can control. I try to go out and make the most of every day and leave it up to them to make the decision. I just try to have fun playing football. That is the biggest thing for me.
When Johnson was asked a similar question, he noted that this receiver corps has many players that can make plays. It should be noted that both Turner and Johnson have been recognized for their blazing speed, something that’ll be of great use moving forward.
“Everything is coming up pretty good. The competition is great. We have a lot of guys that can make plays. At the end of the day, we just try to push each other to be better and execute.”
As a side note, Johnson also commented on the field conditions. To which the speedster responded, “It wasn’t that bad. For me, we could play anywhere if it were in a parking lot. I am ready to go.” With preseason soon giving way to roster cuts, both Turner and Johnson are names that Raiders fans will no doubt keep an eye on in the coming weeks and days.
