Raiders place backup QB Marcus Mariota on IR with quad injury

The Las Vegas Raiders have placed backup quarterback Marcus Mariota on injured reserve with a quad injury, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Mariota played one snap and ran for 31 yards in Las Vegas' 33-27 overtime win against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday.

Earlier this week, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said that the team lost a "big part" of its offense with Mariota injured, adding that he hopes the issue doesn't linger. Now he'll be sidelined for at least three weeks.

Mariota dealt with a quad injury throughout the preseason and didn't appear in a single game this summer. The 27-year-old signed with the Raiders before the 2020 campaign after five years with the Tennessee Titans.

Nathan Peterman will now likely back up starting quarterback Derek Carr.
