Raiders QB Marcus Mariota out multiple weeks after aggravating quad injury

The Las Vegas Raiders hoped to incorporate backup quarterback Marcus Mariota in their lineup regularly this season. That lasted just one play.

Mariota played one snap in Monday's 33-27 overtime win against the Baltimore Ravens and ran for 31 yards. However, he aggravated a quad injury on the play and will be sidelined for multiple weeks, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Mariota's 31-yard run came in the first quarter of Monday's game. At the end of the play, he was tackled hard by a few Raiders defenders and appeared shaken up while walking off the field.

Earlier this week, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said that the team lost a "big part" of its offense with Mariota injured, adding that he hopes the issue doesn't linger.

Mariota dealt with a quad injury throughout the preseason and didn't appear in a single game this summer. He was slated to start the Raiders' second preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, but Gruden kept him sidelined out of an abundance of caution.

Mariota signed with the Raiders before the 2020 campaign after five years with the Tennessee Titans.

With the Hawaiian sidelined, Nathan Peterman will be promoted to QB2, and Derek Carr is expected to take all the offensive snaps.
