Raiders receiving offers for QB Marcus Mariota?

NFL quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff already know they're set to join new teams, and fellow signal-callers Deshaun Watson, Carson Wentz and perhaps even Russell Wilson may orchestrate exits from their current employers during the offseason.

A different name among the list of quarterbacks who could soon switch teams is a blast from the past.

On Tuesday night, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (h/t Grant Gordon) explained during an on-air segment that the Las Vegas Raiders have received calls about Marcus Mariota.

"There's legitimate and real interest in Mariota," Rapoport said.

The Tennessee Titans selected Mariota with the second overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, but he failed to find consistency throughout his tenure with the club and then lost his starting job to Ryan Tannehill in October 2019. Mariota signed with the Raiders last March and played in only one game this past season.

The 27-year-old impressed in place of the injured Derek Carr against the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 17. He completed 17-of-28 passes for 226 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Mariota also contributed 88 rushing yards and a score on the ground in the 30-27 defeat.

According to Spotrac, Mariota's contract runs only through the 2021 season, carries a base salary of $10.625 million and includes no dead money liability. That last part could make trading somebody who is currently a backup to a quarterback-hungry team an appealing idea to Raiders coach Jon Gruden, especially if Gruden is looking to acquire additional assets he could include in a future deal for a top-tier QB.
