Raiders release WR Willie Snead after he asks to be cut

The Las Vegas Raiders have endured a tumultuous season that included the shocking resignation of head coach Jon Gruden but nevertheless managed to enter the bye winners of two consecutive games and at 5-2 on the campaign.

Even still, one individual used the off week as an opportunity to embrace a fresh start elsewhere.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed Tuesday the Raiders have parted ways with veteran wide receiver Willie Snead:

Snead's frustration is understandable, as he logged only three catches for 32 yards in his seven appearances with the Raiders after he signed with the organization in March.

Snead spent the previous three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, and he finished the 2020 campaign with 33 receptions for 432 yards and three touchdowns. While the 29-year-old could provide Baltimore with a bit of a boost in its passing attack, he also played for the New Orleans Saints for three seasons.

Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports mentions the Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Chargers as potential midseason destinations for Snead. In 93 career regular-season games, Snead has recorded 278 receptions for 3,425 yards and 16 touchdowns.
