Raiders should try to acquire Pro Bowl LB

After ranking 26th in points and 28th in yards allowed, Las Vegas must jumpstart its defense, so it should try to acquire Tampa Bay LB Devin White.

ESPN's Jenna Laine reported the former Pro Bowl LB requested a trade. A source told ESPN that White is frustrated with contract negotiations. The Buccaneers activated his fifth-year option instead of giving him a new contract.

If Tampa Bay places him on the trading block, the 25-year-old will entice potential trade partners. He's a former second-team All-Pro and a Super Bowl LV champion. In 17 games last season, he recorded a career-high in sacks (5.5) and 124 tackles, the second-most in his career.

White would fill the Raiders' void at LB after the departure of former Pro Bowl LB Denzel Perryman.

Instead of re-signing Perryman, who was second on the team in tackles for a loss last season (14 in 12 games), the Raiders let him sign a one-year deal with Houston. Las Vegas must rely on Robert Spillane, Divine Deablo and Luke Masterson if it can't find a replacement.

White would be an upgrade, but giving him a long-term contract might be problematic due to the Raiders' cap situation.

According to Spotrac, the Raiders have $11.1M in cap room. White's market value is a four-year deal worth $20.4M annually.

Giving him the contract stretches the Raiders' financial situation, yet it's worthwhile since he provides a defensive boost, which could help them bounce back into playoff contention.

Coincidentally, Las Vegas had an opportunity to land White in the 2019 NFL Draft. It could've selected him with the No. 4 overall pick, but the Raiders took former DE Clelin Ferrell instead. Tampa Bay choose White with the No. 5 overall pick.

If he's available, the Raiders shouldn't squander a second chance at picking up the LB because they'll regret it.
