About two months ago, veteran tight end Nick O’Leary signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. On Thursday, the team announced that O'Leary has been placed on the reserve/retired list.
O’Leary, 27, split his 2019 season between the Jaguars and Dolphins. After entering the league as a fifth-round pick of the Bills in 2015, he enjoyed a career as a reliable role player and a pass-blocker. He had 53 career receptions and four TDs in five NFL seasons.
Now, he’s moving on to something new.
To replace O’Leary on the roster, the Raiders re-signed free-agent tight end Paul Butler. Butler spent time with the Raiders over the past two years and he’ll return in 2020 to join them in Las Vegas. Butler also spent time with the Lions as a reserve/future signing, but has yet to see live regular-season action in the NFL.
Butler will fight for his spot on the 53-man roster, competing in camp alongside tight ends Darren Waller, Jason Witten, Foster Moreau, Derek Carrier and undrafted free agent Nick Bowers.
