The Las Vegas Raiders just made it very clear where they stand regarding an offseason situation that will soon happen. Last season, they didn't make it as clear; this offseason, they are coming a bit differently.
The Raiders last season came to running back Josh Jacobs with a deal that he didn't like. He wanted more long-term security, but the Raiders didn't want to budge. They offered the franchise tag, and Jacobs never accepted it.
He sat out of training camp, and the Raiders came back to him with a one-year deal, but with more money than the franchise team would have given him. Now, we are right back to square one.
We know Antonio Pierce, the Raiders' new head coach, loves Jacobs and wants Jacobs there long term; however, that's not ideal with the running back market.
On Monday, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported that the Raiders wanted to sign Jacobs to a deal and did not want to use the franchise tag. Under this new regime, they are making it clear where they stand.
Now, it's just about both sides agreeing to a deal. If they don't, we could see the Raiders move on from him, as they said they did not plan to use the franchise tag.
Only time will tell what happens from here.
