Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers (3) Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Cam Akers appears to have once again fallen out of favor with the Los Angeles Rams, and the running back indicated that he does not understand why.

Jay Glazer reported during the NFL on FOX pregame show Sunday that Akers will be inactive for the Rams’ Week 2 game against the San Francisco 49ers. Glazer also said the Rams would like to trade Akers and have contacted other teams to discuss that possibility.

Not long after the news surfaced, Akers appeared to address the situation on social media.

“I’m just as confused as everybody else. I’m blessed though,” Akers wrote on X.

Akers got the ball plenty in the Rams’ win over the Seattle Seahawks last week, but he was not very effective. He rushed for just 29 yards on 22 carries, though he did score a touchdown.

The Rams announced prior to the trade deadline last season that they were looking to move Akers. The announcement came after Akers was made inactive for what head coach Sean McVay called “personal reasons.”

A second-round pick in 2020, Akers flashed potential when he rushed for 625 rushing yards and averaged 4.3 yards per carry his rookie season. He then suffered a torn Achilles in practice ahead of the 2021 season. Though he had an extremely quick recovery and returned later that year, Akers has not had a consistent role with the Rams since.
