One of the key pieces for the Los Angeles Rams defense last season was the play of fourth-year safety Jordan Fuller. The safety ranked second on the team in tackles and was one of the team captains for the second time in his career.

The Rams have been busy in free agency so far, making some additions while also letting some players go and it looks as if Fuller might be one of those who won’t return to the team next season.

Fuller is a free agent and the Rams starter is set to meet with the Carolina Panthers, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network:

Losing Fuller would be a tough blow for the Rams as he would not be easy to replace since he did so much for the team last season. Not only did he rank second on the Rams with 94 tackles, but he also led the team with three forced fumbles, tied for the team lead with three interceptions and added eight passes defensed.

The Panthers have lost both of their starting safeties in free agency, releasing Vonn Bell while Jeremy Chinn chose to join Washington. As such, they badly need some help in the backend of their defense so the interest in Fuller makes complete sense. It will simply be a matter of whether the two sides will come to an agreement.

Defense is where the Rams needed to make some improvements this offseason so losing one of their leaders on that side of the ball could set the team back.

Rams sign CB Darious Williams to three-year deal

Making a potential loss of Jordan Fuller even tougher is that the Rams have already made a big addition to the secondary in signing cornerback Darious Williams to a three-year contract worth up to $30 million.

This is a reunion as Williams began his career with the Rams, becoming one of the team’s most reliable defenders and a starter throughout the team’s run to the Super Bowl in 2021. He has spent the last two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and is coming off his best season to date with 53 tackles, four interceptions with one touchdown and 19 passes defensed last year.
