Rams' Matthew Stafford could be game-time decision vs. Cardinals

Fans may have to wait until Sunday afternoon to learn the final Week 10 status of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

"As far as the exact level in the protocols, I let those guys [the medical and training staff] tell me, 'Hey, he’s making good progress,'" Rams coach Sean McVay said about Stafford ahead of Sunday's game against the 3-6 Arizona Cardinals, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk and Sarah Barshop of ESPN. "We’re going to leave the door open. And that’s why you see him listed as questionable."

McVay surprised outsiders when he previously confirmed Stafford entered the concussion protocol on Tuesday following last Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that dropped the Rams to 3-5 on the season. As shared by Jenna Lemoncelli of the New York Post, Kelly Stafford, Matthew's wife, later raised eyebrows when she explained in an Instagram post she had "every emotion running through" her regarding her husband's health and felt "concerned, angry, sad, (and) tired."

McVay added on Friday Stafford is able to complete some throwing work and could take part in practice reps this weekend if he clears the protocol.

"Could go all the way up until 90 minutes before kickoff, because when you’ve got a guy that’s a veteran player like him, you’re not going to risk at all any of the — we’re not going to skip any steps, so I don’t want that to be misunderstood," McVay said. "But I think it would be silly of me to rule him out when you’re talking about our quarterback, a guy that means so much to us if there’s a possibility [for him to play] while not being able to risk him. And that’s where we’re at with that."

Backup John Wolford is currently atop Los Angeles' depth chart at the sport's most important position. Wolford hasn't yet thrown a pass in a meaningful game this season.

According to ESPN stats, Stafford will begin the weekend 23rd among eligible quarterbacks with an 84.9 passer rating and a 46.2 total QBR on the campaign. He's fourth with a 68.4% completion percentage but has also thrown eight interceptions in as many games.
