Rams OT Andrew Whitworth says it would be 'unreal' to retire with Super Bowl win

Andrew Whitworth became the oldest active player in the NFL when Tom Brady announced his retirement earlier this month. Retirement is certainly knocking on the door for Whitworth himself, but he has not committed to anything in regard to his playing future.

But with the Rams set to play in the Super Bowl, the perfect storm may be forming.

Whitworth told Greg Beacham of The Associated Press on Friday that if Los Angeles wins the Super Bowl, he'd have to consider riding off into the sunset.

“What an unreal way to walk off," Whitworth said. "I don’t think there’s anything else I would have to do.”

At 40, Whitworth will become the oldest offensive lineman to start a Super Bowl when he laces them up on Sunday. It'll be the end to an eventful week, as he won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award on Thursday night at the NFL Honors.

The Rams are favored by more than a field goal, so Whitworth may get his wish. It'd also be fitting to end his career against the Bengals, as he began his career in Cincinnati after being selected in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

Whitworth played the first 11 years of his career with the Bengals before ultimately leaving for the Rams in 2017. He was named a First-Team All-Pro that following season, his third All-Pro selection as he picked up a First-Team selection in 2015 and a Second-Team nod in 2014.
