Rams sign Matthew Stafford to four-year, $160M extension after Super Bowl win
A little more than a month after Matthew Stafford led the Los Angeles Rams to a win in Super Bowl LVI, the team signed the veteran quarterback to a contract extension that will likely allow him to finish his career in Los Angeles.
Stafford, 34, signed a four-year, $160 million extension with $135 million guaranteed, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Stafford spent the first 12 seasons of his NFL career with the Detroit Lions, who picked him first overall in the 2009 NFL Draft. He was acquired by the Rams during the 2021 offseason in a trade that sent Jared Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round pick to Detroit.
In his first season with the Rams, Stafford threw for 4,886 yards with 41 touchdowns. In the playoffs he threw another nine touchdowns and averaged 297 passing yards per game. In the Super Bowl, he threw for 283 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in a 23-20 win against the Cincinnati Bengals.
