As the offseason settles in and the Los Angeles Rams’ spring workout program looms two weeks away, Puka Nacua isn’t taking a break.

Since concluding his rookie campaign, he’s been diligently honing his craft. Despite his impressive performance in 2023, Nacua’s hunger for improvement fuels his relentless dedication to mastering the NFL game.

Partnering with Cooper Kupp for offseason training, Nacua has embarked on a transformative journey. He’s already shed about 10 pounds from his playing weight of approximately 220 pounds last season.

Nacua spoke out about losing the poundage and his goals by doing so.

“I’ve slimmed down a little bit from what I was. I was pretty heavy. The game was physical, I definitely feel like I played the game physical but I feel like I could maybe lose a couple pounds. Last season, I was close to like 220 for most of the season. I was up there. I’m probably around 210 right now. I feel a lot better.”

This weight loss isn’t just a matter of aesthetics; it’s a strategic move aimed at enhancing his agility and maneuverability on the field.

Nacua’s primary objective is to excel at beating press coverage at the line of scrimmage. By shedding pounds and improving his lateral quickness, he aims to gain a competitive edge in this aspect of his game. Recognizing the physical toll his playing style exacts, with numerous jet sweeps and in-breaking routes in his repertoire, Nacua understands the necessity of adapting his physique to optimize his performance.

While Nacua’s rookie season showcased his physicality, a leaner frame coupled with enhanced speed and agility could elevate his game to new heights.

By fine-tuning his skill set and physical attributes, Puka Nacua aspires to cement his status as one of the premier wide receivers in the league.
