Randy Moss, Tedy Bruschi rip into Packers QB Aaron Rodgers

As the Green Bay Packers headed into Sunday’s Week 8 matchup with the Buffalo Bills, the storyline to watch was how quarterback Aaron Rodgers performed with a banged-up receiver group missing Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb.

While the 38-year-old Rodgers has been fairly critical of his receivers this season, particularly rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, former NFL stars Randy Moss and Tedy Bruschi suggested that more finger pointing should placed in Rodgers’ direction.

“Yes, everybody in the Green Bay Packers is frustrated because things are not going well,” Moss said on Sunday NFL Countdown. “But what I need to see out of Aaron Rodgers going forward with these young wide receivers — because if you give them some confidence and let them know…what do you always tell a player after they mess up a play? Let it go and move onto the next play. That’s what I need from Rodgers — let it go and lead them onto the next play.”

Added Bruschi:

“Is it only leadership if (they’re) winning and doing things right? Because Aaron is a big part of the solution, I think, to help get these guys going. Even if you’re down by 20, still try to get something going for the future or next week or something because all that I’ve seen from this quarterback is, ‘None of it’s my fault, it’s on them.’”

Doubs, a 2022 fourth-round pick, ranks second on the team in receptions (26) and fourth in receiving yards (234), while Watson ranks eighth (7) and ninth (52 yards), respectively, in the same categories.

While the youthfulness of Green Bay’s receiver group could in part be to blame for Rodgers’ struggles this season — their average age is 25.7 years with four WRs 24 or younger — the team as a whole has struggled with catching the ball.

Green Bay has 14 combined drops this season, fifth-most in the NFL behind Miami (17), Denver (15), the New York Jets (15) and Jacksonville (15).
