Ravens experimenting with position change for veteran

The Ravens are implementing their new offense under offensive coordinator Todd Monken and with a change in scheme could come a change in position for one veteran.

Patrick Ricard, who has played fullback since being drafted by Baltimore in 2017, has been taking snaps with the offensive line during the team's recent training camp practices.

The four-time Pro Bowler has always done whatever is asked of him and a move to the offensive line could be the latest example.

"It's just a multiple role kind of thing," head coach John Harbaugh said. "Pat's quite an athlete. He can do a lot of different things. Maybe we expand his role just a little bit for a little bit of time and see how he does."

Ricard already made one position change when he entered the NFL, switching from a collegiate defensive lineman to fullback. But with the offense seeming to take a more pass approach, Ricard's blocking ability may be better served on the O-line.

The 29-year-old has dealt with some injuries, just coming off the physically unable to perform list, so moving him even more so into the trenches may not seem like the best idea to some. 

However, the Ravens seem to already have his replacement in Ben Mason, who replaced Ricard during the veteran's absence.

With Baltimore not needing Ricard to return to his role, we may get our first look at his new position in the Ravens' first preseason game vs. the Eagles on Saturday.
