Ravens GM Eric DeCosta confirms team has begun extension talks with Lamar Jackson

At the beginning of March, the Baltimore Ravens had not had contract discussions with Lamar Jackson. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta confirmed Monday that has since changed.

"That's ongoing. That's definitely a fluid thing. Lamar and I have had a discussion about that," DeCosta said. "I think it's important to us and it's important to him. I think Lamar is obviously a very patient guy. He wants to be the best he can be. He wants this team to be the best it can be and he wants to win very badly. So we're aligned that way. I'm confident that we'll continue to discuss this and I think at some point, hopefully we'll have some good news for everybody."

Jackson is reportedly expected to receive a massive extension this offseason following the deals Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes signed. It's unclear what sort of deal he'll land, though. Mahomes is the NFL's highest-paid quarterback at $45 million per season, while Watson makes $39 million per year.

It's not surprising that Jackson is expected to land a massive deal. He is 30-7 as Baltimore's starter and has thrown for over 7,000 yards and 68 touchdowns in three seasons. He also became the first quarterback to run for 1,000-plus yards in multiple seasons and earned his first playoff win in 2020.

Along with Jackson, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is expected to receive a large extension this offseason.
