Ravens hosting former 1,000-yard WR on free-agent visit

The Ravens have lost several playmakers in free agency and are set to lose another in wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who is visiting the Dolphins on Thursday. With that in mind, could Baltimore finally begin to replenish what it has lost with a former 1,000-yard receiver?

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Cowboys free-agent wide receiver Michael Gallup is scheduled to visit with the Ravens on Thursday. Gallup was a post-June 1 cut by Dallas last week.

Gallup, a third-round pick by the Cowboys in 2018, is coming off yet another disappointing season in 2023 when he posted a career-low 418 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The 28-year-old hasn't been the same player he was before tearing his ACL during the 2021 season. Still, it makes sense for Baltimore to do its homework on him.

The Ravens' wide receiver room is quite thin after the loss of Devin Duvernay and the likely loss of Beckham Jr., who shared a goodbye to the team and fans on social media last weekend.

Wide receivers Zay Flowers, Nelson Agholor and Rashod Bateman currently highlight the room. However, outside of Flowers, Baltimore's 2023 first-round pick, there hasn't been a ton of production.

Agholor (381) and Bateman (367) had under 400 receiving yards last season. That's why adding a former 1,000-yard receiver like Gallup could be a smart move, even if he's not that same player anymore.

Gallup would come at a cheap price, which is what the Ravens are looking for with just $13.8 million in salary cap space, per Over The Cap.

Baltimore took a similar risk with Beckham Jr. last season after he tore his ACL during Super Bowl LVI. Gallup could be the latest example of Baltimore taking an aging or injured veteran and squeezing whatever good football he has left out of him.
