Ravens QB Lamar Jackson wants to be more 'consistent' on deep passes this season

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson already has one NFL Most Valuable Player Award on his resume but admitted last October he was not happy with his passing production at that point in the season. According to ESPN stats, the Ravens finished the 2020 campaign dead last in passing yards per game and overall pass attempts, and Ryan Mink of the club's website explained Monday that Jackson is ranked 21st over the past two seasons as it pertains to completing passes that traveled 20 or more yards in the air.

Jackson said he plans to focus on that aspect of his game during workouts heading into training camp and preseason action.

"People are always saying we throw short, intermediate routes and stuff like that – little 5-yard, 10-yard routes," he said. "But we had some chances last year. We hit some of them, but we're just trying to be more consistent this year. That's where the strides happen. It starts in practice, and hopefully it transitions to the game. We've just got to keep working on it."

With head coach John Harbaugh recently saying Jackson is "gonna get paid" via a second contract with the organization, Baltimore's QB1 will need to repeatedly show he can beat top-tier defenses with his arm if he is to truly earn that money down the road.
