Ravens RB Gus Edwards tests positive for COVID-19

Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards won't be a participant in the early days of training camp.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted Tuesday afternoon that Edwards tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss at least the first 10 days of camp due to the league's coronavirus-related protocols. As Josh Alper noted for Pro Football Talk, Schefter's information suggests Edwards is not considered fully vaccinated against the virus, as vaccinated players could potentially return without isolating for 10 full days if they produce two negative tests during that window.

The Ravens released veteran running back Mark Ingram in January and then signed Edwards to a two-year, $10 million contract extension in June. Per ESPN stats, Edwards finished the 2020 regular season second on the Ravens among running backs with 723 rushing yards and six rushing scores. J.K. Dobbins, Baltimore's second-leading rusher from last year behind quarterback Lamar Jackson, remains atop the depth chart at the position.

The final two weeks of July have left little question that COVID-19 cases, potential exposure to infected individuals, and differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated personnel will be massive talking points throughout at least the NFL preseason.
