Ravens should consider reuniting with former All-Pro CB

It's not often that a talented player becomes available 12 weeks into the season, but a high-profile former Baltimore Ravens defender just has.

On Monday, the Las Vegas Raiders released former All-Pro CB Marcus Peters, who spent four years (2019-22) in Baltimore, after being benched in Week 12. Peters will head to waivers, and if he passes through, he will become a free agent and be able to sign with any team of his choosing.

The 30-year-old's play has taken a bit of a dip, but he still shows signs of why he was a first-round pick and named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2015. Peters has 43 tackles, an interception for a touchdown and five passes defensed this season.

The Ravens may not be able to claim Peters off waivers as most teams will have priority over them, but if he does become a free agent, he shouldn't cost too much after he signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Raiders in July.

Some may believe Baltimore doesn't need Peters considering its defense is allowing the second-fewest total yards per game (273.9) and points per game (15.6) in the league. Still, the Ravens are real Super Bowl contenders, sitting atop the AFC with a 9-3 record, and a team going for it can never have too much talent.

Baltimore has also seen several injuries to key defensive backs this season, including cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey and Rock Ya-Sin and safety Marcus Williams. Adding a player of Peters' caliber provides even more experience and depth to an already talented group.

Only time will tell if the Ravens are able to claim or sign Peters, but it would certainly be smart of them to do so in a low-risk, high-reward-type of move.
