The Baltimore Ravens have signed former Steelers slot cornerback Arthur Maulet, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.

Maulet comes to the Ravens after the Steelers released him back in May after not agreeing on contract structure and money overall. He played mostly as a run-down slot cornerback but dabbled in playing as a three-down slot cornerback whenever injuries would arise. In two seasons with the team, Maulet endeared himself both to the locker room and players on the field, and facing him will be a switch for the team.

Last week, it was reported that the Jaguars and Bears were sniffing around Maulet and he was biding his time for the right offer. It appears that right offer comes from Baltimore, one of the Steelers AFC North rivals. That will offer Maulet a unique chance at getting back at his former team.

In his tenure with the Steelers, Maulet racked up one interception, four pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and 106 tackles overall. The Steelers signed Chandon Sullivan during the NFL Draft and he is now in line to be the likely starter at slot cornerback. Sullivan played previously with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings.

One way the Steelers can help replace what Maulet did as well relates to their safeties. The team debuted a three-safety Heavy Nickel package in 2022 that looks to get more run in 2023, with Keanu Neal plying the role of a box safety. They could also give more playing time to 2022 dime defensive back Tre Norwood, a 2021 seventh-round pick who has played in the slot in addition to backing up free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Maulet’s blitzing will make him a good fit for the Ravens, who have had some moving pieces at slot cornerback following a rash of injures to Tavon Young. Regardless, the team should see plenty of use for Maulet on early downs and he fits what they like to do defensively well.
