Ravens star QB Lamar Jackson not at training camp due to COVID-19-related issue

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was absent from training camp Wednesday, sparking concern among fans in Baltimore.

ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jamison Hensley report that the former MVP was absent due to a COVID-19-related issue.

With Jackson not present at Wednesday's practice, Trace McSorley and Tyler Huntley are set to take a majority of the snaps at quarterback, Schefter adds. Kenji Bahar is practicing as the third-string quarterback.

Jackson missed one game during the 2020 season after testing positive for COVID-19. He has declined to answer when asked by reporters this summer whether or not he has been vaccinated.

Vaccination has been a hot topic around the NFL in recent weeks, with the league sending out a memo stating that teams that have COVID-19 outbreaks among unvaccinated players will be forced to forfeit games if they cannot be rescheduled within the 18-week schedule.

The league also announced that unvaccinated NFL players will be subject to a $14,650 fine every time they violate COVID-19 protocols.

Several players around the NFL have blasted the league for its handling of players who aren't vaccinated, including DeAndre Hopkins and Matt Judon, who have reiterated that getting vaccinated is a personal choice.

While some players still won't receive the vaccine, Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette said recently that he's at least considering getting vaccinated if it's best for himself and his teammates.
