Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews helped save a woman’s life on an airplane Thursday morning, according to a passenger who says he witnessed the frightening situation.
Baltimore native Andrew Springs says he was on a flight from Baltimore to Phoenix on Thursday when a female passenger experienced a medical emergency. In a thread on X, Springs explained that two medical professionals helped the woman as she struggled with low blood pressure, low oxygen and a weak pulse. A passenger then asked if the woman’s blood sugar could be the issue and said he had a diabetic testing kit with him.
The passenger, according to Springs, was Andrews. The Ravens star helped explain how to use the kit and the woman’s heart rate eventually stabilized. Paramedics then took over when the flight landed. You can read the full thread below:
“A woman on my @southwest flight from Baltimore to Phoenix this morning had a mid-flight medical emergency. The doctor and nurse attending to her couldn’t find a strong pulse, her blood pressure was extremely low, and required oxygen to breathe. It was genuinely scary,” Springs wrote. “A man in the aisle seat popped up, ‘Could it be her blood sugar? I have a diabetic testing kit.’ It was @Ravens TE Mark Andrews. Andrews instructed the medical professionals (equal citizen heroes in this story) on using his test kit. Eventually her heart-rate stabilized."

While Andrews has not confirmed the story, we do know that the tight end is a Type 1 diabetic. Many fans learned that earlier this season when the Ravens shared a video that showed Andrews explaining to a team staffer how he has to check his blood sugar every time he comes off the field.
Assuming the inspiring story is accurate, it sounds like Andrews was in the right place at the right time.
Andrews played in the AFC Championship Game after missing several weeks with a serious lower-leg injury. He caught 2 passes for 15 yards in Baltimore’s 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
