Ravens will reportedly target RB 'with pedigree'

The Baltimore Ravens led the league in rushing yards this past season (156.4), but it wouldn't be a surprise if they target a high-profile running back in free agency.

"Some personnel people inside the league believe the Ravens will target a running back with pedigree in free agency," wrote ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "Baltimore has a few tough salary cap decisions but should be able to keep most of its veteran base intact."

RBs Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins are unrestricted free agents. Dobbins — a former second-round pick — suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in Week 1 against the Houston Texans. He was sidelined for the entire 2021 season with a left knee injury, which forced him to miss nine games in 2022.

The Ravens were reportedly interested in two-time rushing champion Derrick Henry before the trade deadline. The Tennessee Titans star enters free agency in March, and he recently said he wants to be somewhere where he can win his first Super Bowl.

Spotrac estimates the Ravens will be $827.55K over the cap, but they will create more room if they move on from offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley and cornerback Marlon Humphrey. Henry's market value isn't outrageous; according to Spotrac, it's a one-year deal worth $10.3M.
Signing an elite back also protects quarterback Lamar Jackson. The two-time league MVP averaged 9.3 rushing attempts per game, tied for the second-fewest in his career. As a result, he didn't miss any games due to injury.

The Ravens fell in the AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but they might be one piece away from winning their first Super Bowl since 2012. DraftKings gives them the third-best Super Bowl LIX odds (+900).
