The Baltimore Ravens had a bit of an scare on Wednesday as cornerback Rock Ya-Sin left practice early with an apparent injury. And now the Ravens have he MRI results, with NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reporting, "Rock Ya-Sin did not suffer a tear in his knee ... He’s dealing with some pain and that may take time, but structurally, it appears sound.''
According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, Ya-Sin left practice less than an hour in after tweaking something in his leg while matching up with receiver Shemar Bridges. Fortunately for the Ravens, though, coach John Harbaugh said Ya-Sin avoided a long-term injury in his post-practice press conference.
“Not a serious thing, but let’s wait and see what we hear," Harbaugh told reporters. "We’ll know more once they get a look at it.”
The Ravens avoided disaster in this situation, as their cornerback room is thin behind Ya-Sin and All-Pro Marlon Humphrey. Following the departure of Marcus Peters and others this offseason, every cornerback on the roster besides Ya-Sin and Humphrey had 15 total tackles or less last season.
Ya-Sin, 27, joined the Ravens on a one-year deal signed in May. Last season with the Las Vegas Raiders, he had 45 total tackles and seven passes defended. The Temple product was a 2019 second-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts, and he had 138 tackles, 20 passes defended and two interceptions in three seasons with the team.
The Ravens are counting on Ya-Sin to be an impact player in the secondary this season, and they're fortunate to have avoided any major injury on Wednesday. ... even as they cannot yet be certain of his return timetable.
