The Baltimore Ravens would rather forget June 22, 2022, because of the tragic events that occurred.
Earlier in the day, the team lost linebacker Jaylon Ferguson, who had been with the team for three seasons.
But before the day ended, the franchise said goodbye to one of their greats.
Defensive end Tony Siragusa died in his sleep at age 55.
He was a part of the historic defensive unit that helped the Ravens win Super Bowl XXXV in dominating fashion.
That crew allowed the fewest points in a 16-game regular season which included four shutouts.
Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis was the undisputed leader of that unit but he benefitted from Siragusa’s exceptional play from the defensive line.
“Goose” and Sam Adams attracted multiple offensive linemen, giving free rein for Lewis, Jamie Sharper, and Peter Boulware to rush the quarterback.
But aside from his contributions as a player, Lewis paid tribute to the person Siragusa was beyond the field.
Lewis tweeted, “The last time I lined up next to my guy, no better brother, no better man I will see you again Goose. It’s only one you brother, to the family a King has went home but never forgotten!!! Ravens Nation!!”
Siragusa’s Career With The Ravens
He signed with the Ravens after playing seven seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.
Ironically, the Colts’ transfer from Baltimore to Indianapolis gave way for the establishment of the Ravens franchise.
Siragusa played five seasons for the Ravens until his retirement in 2001.
In five seasons with Baltimore, he had 151 total tackles and 5.5 sacks.
