RB Mike Davis signs with Ravens, has Atlanta home burglarized

May has been a hectic month already for running back Mike Davis.

Last week, the 29-year-old was released by the Atlanta Falcons after one season with the club. Then it was reported Tuesday morning that Davis had not only found a new home with the Baltimore Ravens, but one of his actual homes, in Atlanta, had been burglarized.

According to ESPN staff writer Michael Rothstein, Davis had more than $100,000 worth of jewelry stolen last Wednesday.

"Davis, an Atlanta native who played last season with the Atlanta Falcons, had tweeted about his home being burglarized Saturday, saying two men went into his home and stole jewelry and a pair of custom cleats he wore to honor his father, Michael Oliver, who died of cancer in 2019," Rothstein wrote. "The initial police report on the investigation, which is still open as of Tuesday morning, said Davis was at dinner around 9:50 p.m. on May 4 when his security system alerted him to two males wearing grey hoodies with the hoods over their heads, masks covering their faces and armed with handguns walking up to his back patio."

Davis was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft and spent the first two years of his career in the Bay Area, but was used sparingly. He then played 21 regular-season games with the Seattle Seahawks across 2017 and 2018 before signing with the Chicago Bears in March 2019.

A former South Carolina Gamecock, Davis was acquired by the Carolina Panthers off of waivers in November 2019 and had his best pro season in 2020. That year, Davis stepped up in the absence of All-Pro back Christian McCaffrey to start a career-high 12 games and register career highs in carries (165), rushing yards (642), rushing touchdowns (six) and a host of other categories.

Davis fell back to earth somewhat in 2021 with the Falcons, finishing with 138 carries for 503 yards and three touchdowns over 17 games.
