Report: 49ers believe George Kittle will be ready for Week 3 vs. Giants
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle won't play in his team's Week 2 matchup against the New York Jets on Sunday due to a sprained MCL. However, he might be back sooner rather than later.
A sprained MCL usually sidelines players for a couple of weeks, but the 49ers believe Kittle will be able to return for the team's Week 3 tilt against the New York Giants, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
An MRI on Monday revealed the extent of Kittle's injury, but the 26-year-old reportedly has been seen walking around the San Francisco training facility without a limp.
With Kittle on the sidelines this Sunday, the 49ers will have to rely on tight ends Jordan Reed and Ross Dwelley. Kittle, a two-time Pro Bowler, won't be so easy to replace as he plays a large role in the offense. Last season he reeled in 85 catches for 1,053 yards and five touchdowns.
San Francisco fell to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 and will be looking to bounce back against Sam Darnold and the Jets, who also have struggled early on this season.
