Report: 49ers bringing Josh Rosen back for 2021 season

The San Francisco 49ers added Josh Rosen late during the 2020 season. Now it appears the franchise wants him back in 2021.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the 49ers plan to bring Rosen back next season after signing him off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad.

Rosen was a Cardinals first-round pick in 2018 and was traded to the Miami Dolphins after Arizona selected Kyler Murray with the first-overall pick in 2019. The Dolphins cut him last September and he landed on the Bucs' practice squad before joining San Francisco.

The 49ers are expected to start Jimmy Garoppolo in 2021. However, his injury history leaves the door wide open for Rosen to see some games as the starter. The 23-year-old is 3-13 in his NFL career, completing 54.8% of his passes for 2,845 yards and 12 touchdowns against 19 interceptions.
