Could Aaron Rodgers' feud with the Packers end with the general manager losing his job? Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Report: Aaron Rodgers won't return to Packers unless GM Brian Gutekunst is fired

The Green Bay Packers may be forced to choose between veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers and general manager Brian Gutekunst.

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, Rodgers is "adamant" he won't return to the Packers unless Gutekunst is fired. The reigning MVP is reportedly willing to consider "hardline options" to get what he wants, including skipping offseason workouts and training camp and even potentially retiring.

Rodgers could be fined up to $50,000 for every day he holds out of camp. If he retires, he would have to repay the Packers $11.5 million this year and $11.5 million in 2022, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Robinson reports that a reconciliation with the Packers may not be possible if Gutekunst continues to be the general manager. Team president Mark Murphy is reportedly aware of Rodgers' feelings about Gutekunst.

Rodgers' unhappiness with the Packers began when Gutekunst opted to trade up for Jordan Love in last year's draft instead of adding an offensive skill player, such as a wide receiver. The veteran signal-caller believed the pick meant Gutekunst planned to move on from him after the 2020 season, Robinson reports.

Murphy acknowledged Rodgers' feelings on Saturday and expressed optimism that the relationship can be repaired, saying, "This is an issue that we have been working on for several months."

Rodgers preferred trade destinations are reportedly the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders. The Niners reportedly inquired about the three-time MVP before the first round of the draft but were turned down, leading to the selection of Trey Lance at No. 3.
