Report: Chiefs' Bashaud Breeland facing four-game suspension

The Kansas City Chiefs will likely lose some of the little depth the club has at cornerback for the first month of the 2020 season.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that 28-year-old defensive back Bashaud Breeland is facing a four-game suspension for an unspecified violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Breeland would miss outings versus the Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, and New England Patriots.

As ESPN's Adam Teicher pointed out, the Chiefs currently have starting CB Charvarius Ward and unproven commodities Rashad Fenton, Antonio Hamilton and fourth-round selection L'Jarius Sneed on the depth chart.

Per Teicher, head coach Andy Reid spoke addressed the issue while speaking with reporters:

"Time will tell here as we go but we've got a good nucleus of guys and it will all sort out here in the next couple of weeks. Everybody is working hard and getting a lot of reps, which is good. We should be fine there.’’

Breeland started 15 games during his first season with the Chiefs last year and tallied two interceptions, eight passes defended, and 48 total tackles.

He intercepted a pass thrown by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo early in the second quarter of Super Bowl LIV.
