Report: Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney out for Super Bowl LVIII

Even though Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney helped the team win its third title last season, he won't be on the field Sunday in Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the former first-round pick isn't expected to play despite being off of the injury report this week. Toney hasn't played since Week 15 against the New England Patriots, where he bobbled a pass that was intercepted.

Toney stepped up in Super Bowl LVII, returning a punt for 65 yards and catching a TD in a 38-35 victory against the Philadelphia Eagles. He failed to build off of this performance, however. In 13 regular-season games, he had 27 receptions for 169 yards and one TD. He also recorded five drops.

Before the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens, the 25-year-old went on a profane rant on Instagram, claiming he wasn't hurt despite the Chiefs saying he was dealing with ankle and toe injuries.

Last week, he claimed his rant wasn't directed at Kansas City but at fans of his former team, the New York Giants, per ESPN.

Toney's absence doesn't affect the Chiefs offensive game plan against San Francisco. Expect Kansas City to rely on second-year running back Isiah Pacheco. The 49ers are allowing 5.6 yards per carry in the postseason, via The Athletic's Michael Salfino.

Toney not playing raises doubts about his future with the team, and it wouldn't be a surprise if K.C. takes another pass-catcher in the draft. Per Tanakathon, the Chiefs will select Oregon WR Troy Franklin with the 31st pick.
